Blue Cross Blue Shield lowering premiums in November

Birmingham, Ala. - Insurance provider Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama announced today it will lower medical and dental premiums in November for most insured customers on individual, employer, and Medicare plans.

The one-time premium discount is a part of a $80 million benefit to offset the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

November health premiums will be discounted 20 percent and November dental premiums will be discounted 50 percent. If customers have both health and dental coverage, they will receive both premium discounts.

“Many of our customers are struggling with the financial impacts of COVID-19,” said Tim Vines, President and CEO, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. “We care about our customers and hope these discounted premiums will ease some of the financial burden during these challenging times.”

The company stated the premium discount will be automatically applied to customers' November invoices.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama is the largest health benefits provider in the state and insures approximately 3 million Alabamians.
